On Sunday, and at Saturday lunch, Maritime is the only one of the three that is open. Closing days: Maritime on Wednesday and Thursday, Marcel on Sunday, Au Vieux Port on Saturday and Sunday. Marcel and Au Vieux Port are also closed on public holidays.

An Antwerp institution for fish, a stone’s throw from Het Steen. Fresh fish is what the house is known for, filleted and carved at the table. Alongside it oysters, lobster and home-made shrimp croquettes, with mussels and game in season. With a terrace.

Restaurant Marcel — classic à la carte in a 1912 seamen’s church

Van Schoonbekeplein 13, 2000 Antwerp — the Eilandje, next to the MAS museum

Table service takes centre stage: dishes are carved, flambéed and prepared at the table, on the chariot. The restaurant occupies the ground floor of the Dawson Memorial Church, a British seamen’s church built in 1912 and today a protected monument. The wine list counts some 800 references, more than 50 of them by the glass.

A slice of Paris on the Eilandje. Time-honoured French cooking, with as its signature the Canard à la Rouennaise, prepared at the table with an authentic duck press — please order the duck when booking. Poultry carved tableside, eel in green herb sauce, and pheasant and hare in season.

Two private rooms at Restaurant Marcel

Alongside the restaurant, Marcel has two separate rooms for a business dinner, a team event or a family celebration. Same kitchen, same wine cellar, private waiters.

Private Dinner Room — up to 18 guests at one table. Ground floor, a separate room with private waiters. À la carte, or a three- or four-course menu with cheese as an optional fifth course and a matching wine pairing. 65-inch screen, Barco ClickShare and Bose video conferencing. Guest wifi.

Upper Room — up to 48 seated, 90 standing. The former chapel on the first floor, with a bar for aperitifs and a wine cabinet as its centrepiece. Screen and projector, microphone and sound system, wifi. Reached by stairs and by lift. Exclusively for private events, Monday to Friday.

How we make it easy for you

1. Online or by phone. Book through the restaurant’s own website at any hour of the day, or call us directly during opening hours.

2. Priority when we are full. If the website shows no availability, give us a call. We first look for a table for your guest — in the same restaurant, or in one of the other two.

3. Quick confirmation. You get a fast answer, so you can reply to your guest straight away.

One small request, and a yearly thank-you. Please mention the name of your hotel with every booking, in the comments field online or on the phone. That way we recognise your guests and welcome them as they deserve. Every year we look at how many bookings each hotel has made with us, and we thank our partner hotels accordingly.
